We're moved our cabin stuff in and are about 85% settled! We rented a U-Haul truck, packed a ditch cat, and hauled the whole mess to Cloudcroft and got it all in. It was not without challenges: we had movers cancel on both ends of the trip, and this old boy (me) had to help a youngster lift the heavy stuff at altitude, but it all happened without any (known) permanent damage.
The first thing to talk about is the furniture: we hired Almoca Designs to design and build us several pieces, and they came out fantastic. Totally fits the vibe of the cabin and its place in the hills and warms up the cool modernism. The man's stuff is epicly good and affordable!
The builder and architects left us a few gifts:
An early conceptual rendering of the cabin, my joking "design" of the brisket house, and, well, brisket.
As it turns out, my burnt-end-in-cheek brisket concept served as a primary inspiration for the design! We weren't able to swing the smoke pipe from Mad Jack's BBQ, but we did get the simple design, the shou sugi ban, and, instead of medium rare, a touch of gang green.
Let's take a tour, shall we?
First up is the living room. The entertainment center, a borrow from Blu Dot (changed to fit the space and accommodate LPs) who in turn borrowed from Charlotte Perriand, was co-designed with and built by Almoca Designs. It. Is. Gorgeous! And works great!
The coffee table is by Almoca and from when we first met him.
The balcony came out STUNNING. The glass rails disappear into the background offering an unadulterated view of the forest. So glad we splurged on this.
And, yes: it snowed while we were there, something between four and six inches.
The dining room came out great with Almoca's table and the stump chairs (which are more comfy than they look). There's even some serendipity in the cross-structure of the table legs echoing the cross-structure of the light fixture.
The bedroom has been awesome with HUGE views of the forest. We do not plan on putting any curtains up--just let the pine in.
The stairwell to the downstairs has turned out to be a nice showcase spot with art, a slanted wall, a cool fixture, great windows, and and long, tall space.
